Is this the motherboard dying?

My friend currently has an Asus P5K vanilla and he's had issues with it since he got it. It oftens give him "Overclocking Failed" when started up. I looked on the forums to find solutions and tried the latest bios on the weekend. Now he is telling me that the computer won;t even turn on anymore, all he hears are the fans going very fast. Is this the P5K dying or could this be a power supply issue.

I'm just wondering if anyone has seen this before, here are some quick specs and his cpu is not overclocked at the moment.

Q6600@2.4ghz
Asus P5K vanilla
2GB OCZ 800mhz ram
Silverstone Zeus 650W

Try removing each stick of ram, booting with only one.
Most likely a bad stick of ram. Memtest can identify if ram is dead (common issue).

Reset CMOS would be my second guess.
If you can make it into bios, Load Optimized Defaults, save and start from scratch.

I would bet that it is the motherboard. My P5K-E died on me after 8 days, and my replacement board has been a real pain in the ass. After this board I'm sticking with MSI and DFI.

I am kind of hoping its the motherboard, and at the moment the system won;t boot so i can;t test the mem. That motherboard has been terrible to overclock with, it constantly doesn;t post, its a piece of crap. I know now I will never buy anything asus for myself, one garbage experience easily turns me away from the company. I have built 5 computers in the past year with gigabyte boards and have not had one issue with them and I;ve had most cpus running 3.2ghz on stock voltages.

We will try to RMA the board, and most likely move to a P35-DS3R/L
