help!!! need desperate help CPU dying?

Thread Starter
ok so about 2 days ago I was playing a game and my mouse went out i pulled my computer out and went to push the mouse plug into the motherboard and it went Haywire and instantly shut down I went to turn it on and everytime I try to start it now it flickers ON/OFF monitor doesnt even get to post, it gets power for about 1/2 of a second and flickers off I pulled the ram out, computer wouldnt post, pulled the GPU out and it wouldnt turn on, tried the PSU on another computer, its fine. then last I took my CPU out and my motherboard does post and turn on...

could these be due to a processor? maybe it fried or shorted or something? if this is the case I already have a RMA setup with intel to replace my CPU and wanted someone who had the knowledge to check sure and make sure that I am assuming the right thing please leave feedback !! thanks in advance

Run your cpu in another computer.

Make sure the power is disconnected, then clear the CMOS. Do this by taking the little CMOS battery out (be careful) and switch the CMOS jumper to the "clear" or "reset" CMOS position. Put the jumper back after 10-15 seconds, then replace the battery. Try booting after that.

If this doesn't work, you can test to the CPU on another computer (as markt suggested) to narrow down that issue. You may have to find a friend or something for this. But if the CPU works on another PC... then it could be your motherboard. Make sure you try another video card as well to route out that possibility.

Yeah, I didn't think about that. I would make sure your mobo isn't being shorted (on the back side as well) by anything. Take a good look at it. You may even want to take it out and remount it, making sure you're using proper standoffs. Metal touching the back of the mobo = bad.

the thing is I can test everything except for my CPU as I only have one socket 775 mobo, i dont think its a power shortage becausse i took it out of the case layed it on my desk and put everything together and took it apart 1 by 1, it only flickers on/off when the processor is in, I can put everything in except the processor and the computer gets power and starts up fine, when the CPU is in, I cant get ANY power at all =x
