Eww, G751 but no X23-7783D? It besmirches the Shin Etsu name

IMO, the X23-7783D would've come in first if they tested it.

Well, look at this:

CLP vs AS5, done right. CLP is almost 6C cooler than fully cured AS5 on average. In this test, they have the AS5 performing better than the CLP. Something is not right.

I have to agree. If I decide to replace the paste on my AF7, I'll definitely go with IC Diamond 7

That's the cheapest diamond I've ever seen! I know it's synthetic, but still. I have to say I like the temps and the fact that it's non-conductive. Wonder if that would work on my HD3870 chip?

Hiya,

I just wanted to point out that those tests (that you link to) have some issues (possibly). Don't get me wrong - whoever did them did a valiant job, but I have a concern or two.

It's a water cooled setup and the ambient and water temps on the AS5 are both higher than on the CL. This is a double wammy. First, the water temp is higher so the cooling ability is decreased. Then, when the water hits the spreader (radiator or what have you) the higher ambient air temp means that it can't give that energy (heat) off. It is true that the Delta's are what are important - good for the tester to catch that (they obviously have been around the block (um....signature pun btw)) - but unlike air, you can't be sloppy with both water and ambient temps in a WC setup and compare results. With air, it's almost linear - with water it is not. Also, I don't see 6C - I see <4C difference in a valiant but sloppy test.

That's just my experience and opinion. CL is certainly a good product as is AS5.

DISCLAIMER: I work for the site that published those TIM comparisons - but I have/had nothing to do with them. Please don't ask me questions about how it was done - ask the author (who is not me).

Oh...PS: WC systems are actually different at the block level than air cooled. You might actually find that a certain TIM works better or (more likely) the same with a particular water block. That may seem kinda moot, but consider - some of these compounds cost different amounts of money. And, if you are an enthusiast that changes components all the time - that could matter.

Just a thought.

oh....PS2: Nice forum guys I visit the site from time to time - but this is my first post.

Heh, I have Shin Etsu 23...whatever applied now. Love the stuff. A good 3C off my old Ceramique (which I loved by the way).

I might have to take a peek at that Diamond stuff though when it comes time for Q9450 application. The damn shin etsu syringe didn't hold much of the stuff and I'm a clutz.
