9800GX2 on a P35??? - Page 2

Well I figured I'd post here so I didn't make a new thread. Don't these cards run in SLI for both GPU's on the one board to run? Would that SLI work with the P35? I know I can not use 2 cards which would be quad SLI.

No, the card doesnt recognize as sli...its all done internally in the video card. So you can use 1 gx2 in an ati board.

What about running dual monitors? Just plug in play like a single Ultra?

Actually that's one of the issues with the GX2... because it's actually two cards glued together (basically) with only one DVI connection per card, you can only run either 1 monitor in SLI mode, or two monitors in non-sli as two seperate GPU's. It's fairly easy to switch back and forth, which is what I do. Set it to SLI and run a single monitor for games, and disable SLI for photo editing and other things I need more screen space for. Just requires a restart each time, so it's kind of a pain, but it works.

Suposedly they will be fixing this with the next driver release this fall.

Otherwise, I'm running the GX2 on my P35 board, just as proof that it works.

I agree, I'd at least go with a 700W PSU (make sure it has a 6 and 8 pin connector required for the GX2)

That Corsair 750W would be perfect. The 650W is only $10 cheaper so definitely go 750. It's a great PSU at an excellent price. That's the next PSU I'm going to pick up here in a couple of weeks for my rig. Should help me get my E0 E8400 and 8800GT's a little further.

Stop spreading disinfo. You can run a 9800gx2 on a corsair 520w modular. I am running my 9800gx2 on a ocz stealthxstream 600w.

Yes this is correct. I would do some research on the 9800gx2. I used one for a couple months and wasnt too impressed. It will definitely be an upgrade from an 8800 but if you have an ati board, I would recommend 2 4850's or 4870's over the gx2. It didnt seem to like AA in some games. Just MO.

It is just a bad idea.

Why buy a 600 watt PSU now, and spend more money on an 800 watt PSU in a while?

My sig rig draws ~550-580 watts under full load, so a 600 watt PSU would be pushing it.

Also, the 9800GX2 is SLI, and will work on any board. Also, and rules that regard SLI still apply; no multi-display at the moment.

You just can only SLI 2 x 9800GX2's on an Nvidia SLI board.
