PSU Overheating?

Thread Starter
Twice now in the past 2 days while my brother has been playing HL2, the computer has completely shut off. When you try to turn it back on, nothing happens. I tried flipping the switch on the PSU, and that didn't work either.

I then unplugged the PSU, waited about 10 seconds, plugged it back in, flipped the switch, and the successfully powered up the computer. Both times this has happened, the section of the case above the PSU has felt pretty warm (warmer than normal). Is my PSU overheating and shutting down as a safety precaution? Any ideas as to why it's overheating, if that is the case?

That is a possibility. Try clearing it of dust or anything that might be blocking air flow within the PSU's case. Use a can of compressed air.

it could also be shorting itself too. You might try to see if there are any loose wires grounding themselves out.

Agreed. Maybe some of the metal ends of the PSU cables are touching the case's chassis. Such as the molexes.
