8800GTX Overclocking help

Okay I want to OC my GTX a bit

I started with setting my clocks to the superclocked version: 620/900/1450.

On average - what would be a good number to start at for each area?

IE: what can i expect? so i can just set it to a number and test if its stable... I remember some cards could get cores that OC over 50% so what part (shader, core, mem) should i start with

Also is there a non-hard volt mod for this card that works? (pencil mod/ utilities)

If you just adjust the core, the shader is linked to it by default, so you'll move them both up. I think the core will provide the best performance increase for you, but you should easily be able to bump up the mem to at least 1800.

I would make sure you get some cooling on them as well. The air will only be good for so long hehe

1800?!?! You positive.? I can adjust them manually and double the mem speed sounds crazy

aditional cooling isn't an option

Sorry 1800 is the same as 2*900. It all depends if you double the rate or not. People give their speeds both ways. My mem is at 990 (1980), and many people run over 1000.

ok well I'm running 900/1800 memory right now so I'll try to take it to 950.

How do you guys determine a stable OC because my last BSOD from nvidia drivers corupted my OS install. I don't want a bsod.. Suggestions?

Hey man, you'll want AtiTool to "artifact scan" your overclock. If you get yellow blocks (artifacts) within 2 hours, reduce your OC. Otherwise, it's safe to say it's stable.

Oh, have you checked out these 2 threads yet? They should help you out ALOT!! :

In case you aren't already aware, it's a good idea to run something (like the graphs in rivatuner) that'll give you the EXACT clocks you're running at, because all the clocks jump up in discreet 'chunks'. For example, on the memory, anything you choose between about 993 and 1006 will actually run at 999MHz (that's a rough guess, but you get the idea).

The shaders in particular can make some pretty huge sudden jumps.

Just a heads-up, you prolley knew already, but I found it very handy to realize this fact so I'm passin it on
