Anyone with Road Runner...

My friend has Road Runner as his ISP and I want to give him a wireless router so he and his brother can both connect at the same time. For some reason, he told me that he has to add another $10 to each month in order to add another PC to the mix. I really don't know what he means because I have ATT DSL and I'm allowed to have more then 1 PC connected to my network without paying anything extra. Just connect another PC to my router and bam, internet. I'm confused about his ISP though so I need feedback from guys that are currently using Road Runner.

Unless he means 2 gateways in the house I could see the cost, but otherwise it is bogus. I have RR right now and have over 8 people on the network.

No added costs unless you lease the networking hardware from RR.

This is assumption on my part, but this can happen. Basically road runner doesn't use his modem to authentciate his service, they use HIS MAC address from his PC to authenticate service. They want to charge him an extra $10.00 to add another MAC to the authentication list. You can get around this buy getting a router than can handle MAC spoofing (belkin and linksys both can do this, im' sure others can as well). You tell the router to Spoof the MAC address for your friends PC. Road Runner would then never be the wiser about a 2nd MAC getting online behind the router

I have RR thru Time Warner and currently have 3 PCs and 2 Tivos connected via a router with no extra charges.
