680i chipset driver for ubuntu.

Thread Starter
long story short, I came to find out that my driver disk for my p5n32-e has linux drivers for my chipset and audio, but i believe they are for suse and fedora screenshot below.

does anyone know if there are 680i chipset drivers and audio drivers for my mobo for ubuntu gutsy 7.10?

are they needed to run at full compatibility of performance?

Ubuntu will install whatever drivers you need for you usually. Only thing you might have to install is your gpu drivers.

gpu drivers installed right after i enable nvidia restricted driver.

for the reason i ask is because i installed cod2, on ubuntu using wine doors, everything is fine except when i play cod2 MP its really laggy let me refraise this its horrid laggy and getting about 15 fps.
"in windows i get a steady 91 fps"

so i thought that if ubuntu does not have the exact drivers it needs it will perform bad.

any other thoughts?

Don't use the preinstalled drivers. Go to www.nvidia.com and download the file. Move it to your home folder, press ctrl alt f2 to go into text mode and type

Quote:
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12-pkg1.run
that should work. I saw a x2 increase in going from regular ubuntu drivers to the proprietary nvidia ones. Not great fps, but better.

you have to press ctrl alt f2 to go into all text mode. Then you can install them. oh and type sudo in front of that quote I made in that last post.

Those chipset drivers are likely old since nvidia no longer provides Linux drivers for their boards. The chip should be well supported by the Ubuntu Gutsy kernel, so you shouldn't need to install anything extra for it.
As for the video drivers, get the latest ones from nvidia and install them yourself, or use Envy.

No, that won't work. When you do that (although I thought it was ctrl + alt + F1?), it gives you text mode, but X and your DM are still running in your background.

If you're using Ubuntu, didn't you install your driver through Envy? I recommend that way.

But if you want to use the .run file:

Download the file
cd to the directory of the file (you might want to rename the file to something shorter)
Ctrl + alt + F1

Code:
cd <directory of .run file>
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
sudo sh <name of .run file>
sudo rm /tmp/.X0-lock
startx
Then I think ctrl + alt + F7 should bring you back into the GUI (and therefore restart X; you don't have to reboot for the drivers to take effect.)

-----------------------------------

As for the sound issue... I think you need to find either a .deb or some other file type designated for Ubuntu.
