well onto reinstall of ubuntu, I wish i knew about envy before, but anyhow i cannot get out of 800/600 res before and after logon "screenshots above", i uninstalled the nvidia driver and used envy to install but this annoyinbg stuck in 800/600 res is erking me.

so i will do a fresh install and then use "envy" and not any other way.

thanx.

If you're using Ubuntu, didn't you install your driver through Envy? I recommend that way.

But if you want to use the .run file:

Download the file
cd to the directory of the file (you might want to rename the file to something shorter)
Ctrl + alt + F1

Code:
cd <directory of .run file>
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
sudo sh <name of .run file>
sudo rm /tmp/.X0-lock
startx
Then I think ctrl + alt + F7 should bring you back into the GUI (and therefore restart X; you don't have to reboot for the drivers to take effect.)

As for the sound issue... I think you need to find either a .deb or some other file type designated for Ubuntu.
Thanx man, envy worked to perfectly. rept ya.

Ohh yea works awsome, and from a year ago since i used ubuntu to now"used it for couple years then stopped for about a year", ubuntu just seems like it is getting more user friendly, got cod2 installed with the newest wine, it works great, installing WoW right now, might have to go resize partition since i did not know i would be using more than 20gigs on linux.

Yes, Linux is getting exponentially more user friendly, especially with Ubuntu, Suse and Fedora.

COD2 works well with a 6600 under wine? That's pretty good.

I used 20GB once (highest I've ever used on Linux), but that's only because I had a bunch of games on it (it was all test stuff, anyway).

If you ask me, it should be, "It Just Works... Sometimes..." lol

Yea since I did a fresh install of ubuntu and nvidia driver with envy, i get around 50 to 70 fps, jumps around a bit, but with the card oced to 444 519. Yea this 6600 is ehh just about ok under wine, windows man "91 fps straight no budging up or down" but ubuntu like i said 50-70 fps but after gaming a little bit "like 30 minutes" it gets to be a little laggy" but not hit the fire button and 4 secs later u hear the sound shot of your weapon laggy, just when u approach enemies real close "like mallee style close" then the fps drops dramatically to about seems like 4 fps maybe 10.

Yep i got 14.31 gig of 17.78 gigs used, tis cod2 and the well known WoW omy.

sometimes works, yup LOL.

Aye how is suse vs ubuntu, what are your thoughts, ups? downs?

thanx.

Edit: sippin a beer ahaha had to edit this for that statement.

Suse vs Ubuntu... I dunno, I just think Suse is easier. It uses "Yast" as its system preferences/control panel and package manager. Some people like this, others don't. I like it because it "centralizes" the OS in a way, whereas other distros don't have this type of control center.

I think Suse is a more powerful OS. It's harder to get some things working sometimes, though, such as Compiz Fusion. It's also a bit slower, but to me it's worth it. Basically, it's pre-configured the way I like it for the most part.
