Simple Dual Boot XP/Vista Question

Thread Starter
Hey Guys,

I have a really simple question for you guys. I am currently running Windows XP Professional. I've set my harddrive to four partitions (the first with Windows XP) and the others are empty at the moment. I plan on installing Vista Ultimate 64 Bit. I just wanted to make of something before I proceed with the installation.

After I insert the CD in the dvd drive and install Vista on the second partition, will I be able to access either/or operating systems? I just want to make sure that after I install Vista, I'll have the option at BOOT-UP to choose to either run off of the First or Second Partition with an option similar to like:

Press 1 for Windows XP
Press 2 for Windows Vista

Will this automatically be set at the boot screen after I install Vista on the second partition? IS there anything else that I need to do? Because it seems that some people make a big deal about the whole dual-boot process. As long as I am creating separate partitions, it should be fine right?

Thanks,
Brian

Once you install another partition with an operating system, it should show up after the post:

1. Windows XP Professional
2. Windows Vista ...

From the order of partition, it should be ordered like that when selecting as well.

If you need further assistance, this is a GREAT thread:

ACTUALLY I have 2 hd's and Vista sets itself up as the first/default boot and the XP will be "Older Version of windows" option (even though Vista was installed on my slave hd and not my primary)
