XP mega crash.....

Thread Starter
on my other comp i formatted and reinstalled windows xp, as soon as i get all the drivers in and get my programs on, that damn thing crashes. It reboots itself and says on the "black screen"....C:\\windows\\system32\\config can not be located. Its done that 4 times, and my dumb-ars just keeps formatting and reinstalling.....any clue on why it does this?......the system had Vista on it, but so did my other 2 comps and they run fine after i put XP on them. I need a solution to this problem or imma just sit here and format this thing till the hard drive falls out, or its gonna be a yard ornament...thx in advance.

Sounds like one of the drivers you have is bad. Try installing them in a different order, one at a time. If you restart in between each one, you should be able to figure out which driver is causing it. Having Vista on the pc wouldn't do anything, since you're formatting the hard drive before trying it. By the way-C:\\windows\\system32\\config is where the registry is located. Maybe one of the programs you're installing has a virus?

Are you setting stock clocks before reformating if your overclocked, your overclock may not be as stable as you think.

I would redownload all drivers, maybe one you downloaded is corrupted. Also, make sure you have the right versions. There are both 32bit and 64bit drivers for each OS, and if you happened to install the wrong one it would cause alot of problems (It should give you a error before you installed it though)

Try doing it like this:

1. Boot to XP disc.
2. Do a full format to the drive and install XP. (not quick format)
3. Install Motherboard drivers
4. Restart (Important)
5. Intall Video Card drivers
6. Restart (important)
7. Install sound card drivers (if you have a sound card)
8. Restart (if you have a sound card)
9. Update Windows using windows update.

Make sure you are actually installing drivers from the websites and not using the discs that came with your hardware, they are always outdated. Also, never install drivers from windows update because they are 99.9% of the time outdated as well and will cause driver errors. Just click the hide box on anything under hardware.
