Are those temps before or after the as5 thermal?

And how much as5 would I need, a rice grain size?

Just when I think all things are going good with the card.

I let my pc sit for about 3 hours, I come back to a blue screen saying a nvlfr driver is the cause.... wow.

I am really thinking about taking this card back and getting an 8800gts.

Hmm. I'm Idling a little warm as well. Stock speed, 47c. I also have the PNY, maybe our fan speed is lower. It's silent on mine.

Yeah. I use RivaTuner and let it the fans sit at 35%. It is rather silent on idle. It just has a weird almost whine to the card, its hard to put into words. But this is my first pci-e card, so maybe it is just me.

At load while playing COD4 it never went above 61 C.

But I am still thinking about bringing the card back and getting a 8800gt or gts, especially since I got a bsod after letting it sit for a few hours, ***!!

Does this heatsink use thermal pads for the memory IC's? If so you'll want to pick up some fresh ones if you do decide to reseat the heatsink to try and lower temps. They aren't soemthing you'll want to reuse.

Just use a good thermal compound instead.

or go back to the store and tell them that the video card is defactive it overheats.also do u have a fresh supply of air for ur video card? i have my whole case open and as stated above idel temp 39 load 55c.i put a case fan 3-4 inches away from end of video card, becuase right beside is where my chipset also is and i have the fat copper heatsink from the xbox360 CPU sitting on top of the chipset and i must say it keeps it very cool. i digrese (i cant spell).anway when i did that idle temps went down to 36C/45C (incredible even on OC, if someone comes up with a pencil method for this video card i see it hitting 1gig core 1.4Ghz mem)

Uh, no.

There's a reason why thermal pads are used. There is a larger gap between the memory and the heatsink than there is between the core and the heatsink meaning you need something to provide contact. That would be where the thermal pads come in.

Never substitute thermal compound for thermal pads.

Anyway, I can't see your fan being slower than the rest since PNY uses nVidia's reference model meaning everything should be at spec with every other manufacturer that uses the reference model for their boards.

Maybe you should run RivaTuner's hardware monitor or another application that will let you monitor your fan speed at 100% and compare it to others in order to verify whether your RPM's are really lower than other manufacturers.
