Well there's a good chance that I might be able ot pick up a new GPU, my choice, unlimited budget(w/in reason).

If you look @ my specs you'll see that I have a 965p board and only 1 pci-e x16 slot.

I currently am using a 42" 1920x1080 LCD and would like to be able to run @ least 4x aa and 16x af on all games except for crysis @ 1920x1080 if possible. IDK if that's asking too much or not? lol.

I'm leaning towards the 3870x2 because of the possible overclockability in the near future, the native HDMI, and my last 2 cards have been Nvidia. IDK...

anyway... What do you guys think?

um 3870x2 merely because its the best.you're comparing a single GPU (8800GTS) to a dual GPU (3870x2) I take it money is no object?

For that res and AA, 3870x2 all the way. I'd wait for the GDDR4 version though. It's supposed to have a few minor core enhancements as well.

3870X2 if no chance of SLI! Possibly wait for benches of Nvidia's dual GPU answer

just about.

I've heard rumors about driver issues, any comments about that?

My vote went to the 8800GTS 512. Just because Nvidia hasn't treated me badly yet, and all I ever hear about is driver issues with the ATI series.

yes I know. I either lose because I play the waiting game, or I lose because I bought early. lol. So, yeah... lol

edit: BTW i took a look @ the news ya posted. that card just looks weird! lol. any clue on release date for that thing?

X2 is benchmark king, but in real world performance it's lacking. The games that it actually performs better in don't even need a 8800GTS to max out, the games that it's worse in actually needs the power. Unless they step it up with the games optimization, I'd say go for a 8800GTX. It's a very well-balanced card and second to only the Ultra. Single GTS 512 sees stuttering at 1680x1050 because of it's low memory size so it's really just another bencher's card when compared to the GTX.

I saw a 8800GTS 1GB by palit up on the egg today. generally 1GB on g92 cards gives at best a 1 or 2fps increase. what do you think? linky

edit: there's some massive clocks on that sucker! whether or not it can use it's full 1gb it might be worth it. not to say I couldn't jsut OC myself, but it's got a good, awesome colored cooler(), and it's gaurenteed to run @ those clocks. not to mention it's got the std. return policy which is nice so if I have to ever RMA I don't have to deal w/ some company's BS. Plus it appears to have an HDMI adapter
