Yeah I agree Linux SMP is our best option for the Quad; Windows being too much $$ and headache. Affinity Changer is a windows-only service.

Convert the money American donors gave and you should have your total in CDN. Oh and the $1000 is CDN

I think the exchange rate is close enough right now to largely ignore the difference in currencies at least when roughing out gear. My comment above was intended to get folks thinking about Canadian retailers rather than US ones. Customs fees would be a killer if the gear is shipped across the border.

I was thinking they are pretty close. What is it now? CDN is worth 1.03 USD or something like that.

what about graphics cards? Do I understand correctly that they produce far more than CPUs or even PS3s? If so, wouldn't it be better to get some ATI 1xxx cards and simply use the CPU to feed them?

Sorry! Looks like this was covered in another thread!

So does my idea not hold any water?

If we really need flash drives. We can buy $4 256 MB flash drives and use them to store the information and still run 64-Bit Linux off the live CD that adds an extra $8 so we would need to come up with ~$13.

Don't worry about US vs. Can retailers too much.

If we want, we can get it shipped to the US then reshipped to Can. I will pay for shipping as long as it's not too crazy

If we were to buy PS3s, we should look for them in Canada though as I think pricing is becoming similar if not better.

So do we have a final hardware list of what we are purchasing? I will order a new KVM this week (it will not come from our budget) so that the team can mange the boxes.
