How do you measure case fans?

Which point-2-point do you measure on a case fan to get its size? Nothing I try seems to get a logical measurement. I'm guessing diagnol but from where to where I have no idea

Yeah I've realised that but screw to screw? The actual edge of the fan? Where the edge of the hole is?

The edge of the fan

At least thats what I've heard.

Well a 120mm fan is actually 12 cm's, so just measure it normal and diagonal and see where it comes up at.

lol seems so simple. Well the nearest measurement is 70mm but it's slightly over. I think I'll go with that then.

Here is the case anyway (ancient POS)!

If you measure it corner to corner to the edge of the blades, since it's round...

Wouldn't that be the same as just measuring it from blade edge to blade edge...

:\\ there seems to be no concrete opinion lol

by googling I've found the suggestion that you should measure one of the outer sides of the square case of the fan. I get 80mm with this. This is because tvs/monitors aren't square you do it diagnol but squares you just do an edge? That make sense?

I'm clueless, pc fans are never the less the devil To me and other overclockers.

I always figured it was fan blade hole diameter. (as in, the opening which the air would pass through)

I have never measured, but I would assume the blades are slightly less (depending on manufacturer and style) and the shroud is slightly more.
