Able to buy MoBo+8800m GTX. Is it worth it?

Thread Starter
I found a place that will sell me a Laptop socket 775 MoBo+1 8800 M GTX for 1230$. For another 8800 it is 695$. I can get a q6600 for about 200 4 gigs of ddr2 800 for about 90, a hard drive for 80. So it seems that I can build myself a powerful mobile rig(building it in a briefcase) for <2000$ . What do yall think?

Also i heard there was a bug with the 8800m GTX can anyone confirm/deny this?

Wow, good deal! I don't happen to know anything about the 8800m chips; they're way out of my price range. Sorry!

Make sure the chipset will take a quad or dual core... Not even close to all 775 mobos will run core2 chips.

Look at my sig rig laptop that I got at Bestbuy for $1349 and ask yourself if you wanna go through all that trouble.

(It's socket P so you can add a mobile penyryn later on, theres room for a RAID array, and you can add up to 4gb of ram!)

Me thinks he wants a desktop cpu in there, though.

erm, i can put any 65 nm c2d or c2q in there. 6750 or q6600 is what im thinking(the cost/performance ratio gain from 6750 to penryn is negligible). second the 8800m gts is closer in performance to a 8600 as it only has 64 stream proccesors as opposed to the 8800m gtxs 96(although same clocks). I can use ddr2 800 RAM and lastly I can use a PSU as opposed to a cell battery and have the monitor wired directly into the PSU. Do build a laptop of comparable power for what I want im looking at spending over 3 grand where as I can build this rig for about 2. CyberDruid is going to be putting it all together and hes even gonna slap on a bluetooth wireless laser projection keyboard. its gonna be dopealicious

my only concern is that I heard there was a bug that cant be software fixed. It has something to do with the geometry calculations and rendering being a little off

My laptop has a desktop processor in it. Desktop CPU > Mobile CPU every time.
