I can use ddr2 800 RAM and lastly I can use a PSU as opposed to a cell battery and have the monitor wired directly into the PSU. Do build a laptop of comparable power for what I want im looking at spending over 3 grand where as I can build this rig for about 2. CyberDruid is going to be putting it all together and hes even gonna slap on a bluetooth wireless laser projection keyboard. its gonna be dopealicious

my only concern is that I heard there was a bug that cant be software fixed. It has something to do with the geometry calculations and rendering being a little off
Yea desktop cpu's wont work on my laptop.

Now as for the 8800gts, its leagues ahead of the 8600 lol. The 64 stream processors dont mean a thing if you look at the 9600gt it has the same amount but its only about 15% below the 8800gt. I read somewhere that the 8800m gts is about the same power of the G80 GTS 320mb.

All i know is its a beast and can handle any game i throw at it. Im play UT3 max settings no problem, source games run without a hitch as expected, and the Crysis demo i can max out at 1280x1024 (although without AA).

Anyway i see your ready to spend a lot of money but good luck, it looks like your about to build one badass laptop .

i guess your stuck at 1.67 mhz to, which is another reason im not going with one of them gateways. I hope to be playing a little supcom with it when im out of town on trips and proccesing speed is very important. Which is one of the reasons i was initially planning on doing something with a e8400. Let me know, are you able to oc that chip or are those features locked in BIOS?

If you're just going to be putting it in a briefcase and running off of a PSU why don't you just get a normal motherboard and an 8800GTS 512? Its going to cost you about $600 less and you'll get more power out of it.

Seriously though I see epic fail written all over this, you're obviously not going to be running this off of a battery so why not just get a shuttle or similarly sized pc?

Im actually not stuck with 1.67ghz, whenever i want i can go buy a socket P cpu and replace my current one. I can buy something from the T7xxx, T8xxx, or even the T9xxx, so im good to go in the future .

Unfortunately you cannot oc the CPU on this laptop unless you get one of the Extreme processors such as the x7800 or the x9000. the bios is locked with any other cpu.

Liqwid,

You may want to consider a more traditional Small Form Factor case. My case fits in a standard carry-on bag and is easy for me to travel with. See my sig thread for more detail.

I must join the others in asking... if you are going to use a PSU, why do you want a mobile mobo? The cost on parts is INSANE!

bc im looking for something with the power of a desktop and the mobility of a laptop. to build a laptop like this through dell or aw would cost me >3 grand. i can build a powerhorse of a ultra mobile rig for less than 2 grand. Now does it make sense? I will be using a 1u server psu for its long but thin profile not a regular atx psu

I understand that, but still... I think you could get the same "mobility" without using a mobile mobo. You would save oodles and the rig would probably perform better.

not quite as simply as you may think. i have already exhausted the option of making a matx rig using:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-G33M-S2L LGA 775 Intel G33 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard 99.99
9.6" x 8.2"
PSU: 600W 1U Single Power Supply (9.9 x 4 x 1.7) (l x w x h)
CPU: E8400 260$
CPU Cooler:
GPU: 8800 gt 4.4x9 (h x l) 260$
HD:
Optical Drive
Wireless Network Adapter

the 8800 gt is 4.4" itself, and considering the problems with air cooling these components and the weight of even a small loop is what makes me consider using a laptop mobo but mobile graphics solution. I really dont want to lug around a thick, heavy briefcase ya know?
