you're probably right. It would annoy me but remember I'm building this for my brother and he's not into PCs. I expect it'll be quite a few years before he'll even care enough to want to upgrade. Plus he's running a 17" screen. I think the 9600GT is a good choice for gaming at that res and will give him a few years of high-level gaming.

BTW willbushby, budget was £400. So a bit over!

Oke, 17" is for a res of 1280x1024, so a 9600GT should suffice for a while. I have a friend that isn't very computer savvy and he still uses the 5700 Ultra I sold him 3 years ago; when a new game shows up and he can't run it he says the game is crap 'cause he can't be bothered to upgrade every time a new game shows up...and he may be right.
If your bro is gonna keep this card for a while better concentrate on getting one that is silent, or as close as silent as possible, it's one of the prime reason my friend still hangs on to that old (and modded) 5700U.
