Motherbroard to fit 2 3870x2's?

Thread Starter
I'm looking for a motherboard that is able to take 2 3870x2's in Crossfire (1 now then another once the drivers allow Xfire) and that will also have a spare PCI slot for my X-FI although this is not critical if it bumps the price up alot as I can use a USB sound card instead.

My projected upgrade from my sig rig will be...

SilverStone DA850 PSU
3870x2 + another one when driver's allow
New motherboard to accomodate Xfire (thinking P35 or X38?)

Plus all the other bits I have already including Q6600 B3.

Would this do the job? Asus P5E iX38
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=669220

Also, considering this upgrade will cost upwards of £550 + £260 for another X2, will it A) Be a significant uplift form the GTS 640mb I have now and B) Last me for a good length of time without needing to upgrade the GFX?

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated

Edit: I game on a 22" 1680x1050 monitor.

Well the drivers should be out at some point today.

As for the rest, looks fine to me.

That upgrade (2x3870X2) will last for a BIG while and will be a lot better than you 8800GTS.
dunno when the proper drivers are coming out though.

No need for CrossFire at 1680x1050. I love the 3870 X2 to death, but at those resolutions you should just go with the 8800GT.

I know its overkill but I am doing it because I want it to last a long time (like my GTS did had it since launch only Crysis troubles it)

However this is likely to be my last chnace to do a big upgrade before I need to be saving money for University etc. Therefore I want to give it as much of a fighting chance as possible at being futureproof.

I am hoping it will keep me playing games at max settings at my native res for atleast 1 year maybe 2 with a bit of luck and tweaking

i'm not even sure what overkill means but I think what you've got there looks good. I personally would go for a different x38 but that's just a personal thing

I like my maximus formula. However, any x38 should do.
