Windows XP hangs occasionally on POST

Thread Starter
Every once in a while, the computer in my sig will hang on startup. This usually happens after the computer has been restarted. It will power on and it will immediately hang and won't recover. It doesn't even display the amount of memory or list the HDD or allow me to enter the BIOS. I have to manually turn off the computer and let it sit for about 5 to 10 mins and reboot and it boots with no problems.

I have no clue why this happens. I would assume that it is also tied into the computer randomly shutting down also. This happened once on its own while the computer was at the login screen and once today when I went to play Crysis. I started a new single player mission and it just completely power off as if the the plug was pulled. Any ideas because I am lost on this one?

Again, this is the system in my current sig that is giving me the problems

Are you sure your shutdown temp in the BIOS is set appropriately and/or your not overheating?
Or..
Could be a defective case on/off switch.
Try either(if applicable) the OB on/off switch or manual start ups for a while to eliminate3 the switch.

Well, i checked the CPU temps in BIOS and it was 41C. That seems a bit high to me with W/C....??? I doubt the switch is defective, but I can give it a try. I'm kinda hopping it is my memory overheating because I do have that overclocked and the voltage could be too much even though it is only +.3V

If I were the one with that PC, I would assume it's because of the settings I applied for my OC. I'm a bit of an overclocking newbie, but in my adventures overclocking my opty 165 in the sig, I noticed some settings would do exactly that. Basically meant for me that I turned a setting up a bit too high. If you think it's got something to do with a recent OC'd setting, I would say that's probably it.

Then again, I am a newbie. Someone else might know something I don't.

Kyle, if your running an overclock have you tried backing down to stock settings to see if this issue reoccurs? Are you on a power strip or on a surge protector/UPS?

Good luck
