Cpu Dead or Ram (RMAed RAM)

Thread Starter
Well I currently put my E2160 in my computer and I'm only running 1 stick of ballistix. I've tested my comp with some G.Skill memory and it worked fine. I'm gonna try my E6600 again and see what happens. Then I'll try putting all the ballistix back in. I hope my cpu is dead and not my memory because that gives me a reason to grab a Q6600 now.

Well now... I can't even get it to boot up with anything. I don't know if it's the cpu, the ram, or the mobo. When it tries to load up, I hear a non stop beep that kills my ears. What could that be telling me?

Is it beeping with the Ballistix or the G.Skill?

If you tried the other memory, then you could push yourself thinking it is the CPU or Motherboard.

I would think CPU would be the last to die unless accidental voltage problems and overclocking. The motherboard seems to be sturdy too. No beeps, and that is hard to tell what is wrong. Can you try anything from your other computer?

Alright I'm sorry for kinda having two threads so heres an update.

It won't boot with the G.Skill or Ballistix anymore.

When I have my 8800 GTS in, it makes a long beep that kills my ears. That means a memory error.
When I take the 8800 out, it makes a double beep or so which means no video card.

I don't know what to do anymore.

All your memories run perfectly on your signature rig though?

Well I'm using my Ballistix right now on this backup rig so that rules out the memory.

I can't boot with my sig rig with G.Skill so that leaves me to think a dead CPU or Mobo. I hope it's the cpu as I don't want to RMA my mobo.

It still makes the long nonstop beep with the G.Skill (It's not even coming from my speaker thingy.)

Hm. From my experience, CPU's are really hard to fail though, like I said, unless overclocked too the point it will die. How long was this? Try your E6600, like you said. Because we can't really rule out or determine anything like this. Got to test everything, and lets hope it is your CPU. So you can get a new one.

heres a try, this happens all the time with computers i work with when im adding memory or taking out, basiclly they just beep and dont start, so the problem is that the memory ISNT pushed in all the way or the slots are bad.

It's weird though, the beep isn't even coming from my system speaker. I have no idea where it's coming from....

Edit: Using my E6600 right now. It worked before with my E2160 and Ballistix.
