So would it be worth the trouble of overclocking this proc or just get an intel board? Secondly, If it is halfway worth overclocking this proc, Can someone give me a good idea as to what heatsink i should get for it?

a great hsf you should think about is the artic cooling freezer 64 pro it works great with my opty.

second thing is, if you want to hit 3ghz with your 939 setup you should look at optys, either the 165 or the 170

The F64 Pro is far from the best for HS's. Look at a Thermalright XP-90C or SI-128 for the HS. For the Fan, the SI-128 works well with a Silverstone FM121 and the XP-90C works well with a Thermaltake tri-cool or something like that.

Personally..... I'd get a Tuniq Tower 120 to cool it. It's a great cooler that will work with any of the new Intel chips , as well, if you decide later to upgrade to an Intel system.

My other rig I have a AMD X2 3800+ 2.0 OC'ed to 2.5 ghz. If your looking for a cheap way to up grade ur 3800+ for major gain. You can still find dual core 939, there still around. I was running a 8800gtx with that setup and i was getting very good fps in all the games that i played in high setting other than crysis, world in conflict, and supreme commander. Being on 1920x1200 res didn't help any. I say go for a dual core 939 and oc that.

If that is a 3800 Venice you may get 3ghz easily enough. I have one is my daughters rig that his been 24/7 3ghz for.......since I can remember, long time. Its a great single core chip.

Socket 939 is dinosaur in a hardcore gamers time line.

man... you guys are talking freaking overkill for coolers

939s do not produce that much heat! My lapped AC64 Pro:
1)got my lapped opty 165 to 2.85GHz on 1.45V (26Cidle/42load)
2)got my topless opty 170 to 2.9GHz on 1.45v (24idle/41load)

the AC64 is more than sufficient to cool 939 chips... hitting 3.0GHz is significantly more dependent on a good stepping.... a Tuniq is not going to magically make an opty 170 walling at 2.9GHz suddenly hit 3.0 - They're just overkill for these chips

I have decided to scrap the 939 project and go the AM2/ AM2+ route :
