Extremely Low 3870 X2 Performance - Page 6

you've obviously damaged your card.

I still really don't see how the Phenom could possibly bottleneck my X2. I know the x1950XTX isn't as good, but the Phenom almost gave me a 100fps increase in source engine games. CSS Jumped from 80 to 170.

I would say uninstall all of the ASUS software that came with your card. Uninstall drivers and run drivers cleaner. Install the Catalyst 8.2 with the Catalyst Control Center, and make sure the 3D clocks are what they should be (check stock speed at Newegg or wherever)

6k 3DMark is way too low, and 30 FPS in Crysis is too low, too. If you are running High at 1280 x 1024 and only getting 30 FPS, there's a problem. I run it at Very High (no AA) at 1280 x 1024 and I haven't checked the FPS, but it is perfectly smooth.

And the crap about your Phenom Bottlenecking... The people here won't be satisfied with your CPU unless it is a C2D clocked to at the very least 3 GHz. I believe the current Phenoms are still K8 (please, someone correct me if I'm wrong) in which case the 2.2 GHz clock speed IS pretty low, and may bottleneck your GPU. However, you should be scoring over 6k 3DMark on the GPU alone, let alone the CPU...

I know the Phenoms don't OC much, so your options are limited for games that aren't multi-threaded, but for multi-tasking and doing stuff while gaming (folding, enciding music, etc) it will be just as good, probably better, than my CPU, or most anything short of a QX series CPU.

hmmm, how about we look at the facts:
a) phenom's have a very low tolerance for overclocking,
b) a q6600 bottlenecks an 8800gtx when nether are overclocked
c) Phenom's are brand new and the only advantage they have over the core 2 series is that they are native quads, which allows for a slightly higher bandwith.
d) crysis was made for nvidia gfx cards

sure amd might have thought, lets make a quad to make sure every1 is not going over to intel, but they only woke up to that fact just in time to make quad that is only good for using energy (quite frugally i might add). even at 3ghz, some quads can slow down ur more high end gfx cards and if a 3870x2 is supposed to be 30% better than dont u think that maybe thats got something to do with it?

imo, i suggest that ur card is fine, but u might need to get sum w/c'ing to get ur clock speeds a little higher, should u want to oc ur cpu at all. try setting the clock at 2.3 or 2.4 if possible and then see what happens to ur 3d mark score and crysis fps's

You don't make sense.

from my understanding CSS is not much of a GPU game but more reliant upon CPU performance

Well I called, they said they tested it with ANOTHER RIG with similar hardware, it got the same results. Then they tested another 3870X2 in my hardware and the similar one, same results.

What gives, 6,000k on my hardware makes mo sense, my x1950XTX got that score.

Your CPU is bottlenecking it. 2.2GHz(even if it is quad) is pretty low for high-end card like the 3870x2. You should see better numbers if you can overclock your CPU a bit more(I'm not sure how well AMD's overclock, I haven't owned one yet).

What don't you understand, do you think video games are like Prime95 small ffts and will keep your cpu pegged at 100%?
Lol im so sigging this,

meh turn on 16xAA, max settings, full AF 1680x1050.

You tell me how well it does.

Scoped long a through smoke and/or flash knocks MY rig down to ~40 FPS...

mmmkay
