[Anand] Intel Core Temperature Explained - Page 2

If Core Temp is inaccurate, then how come Intel TAT (released by INTEL) has the exact same temps as Core Temp (for me anyway).

TAT is for MOBILE CPU's and may be wrong too.

Just make sure your temp is lower than what people are getting with stock intel HSF and you are set.

Does TAT have the TJ values of each processor by Stepping? If not, then it is not accurate.

So if everything is wrong, what is right? I'm sure the temps being read in coretemp are close to the actual temps.

This is what people with balls are for such as me and grunion. My quad is fine up to 84 degrees on the cores and its 70 degrees overall cpu temp at that point. I've ran it up there a few times and nothing bad has come of it. Think its a coincidence that intel's max storage temp is 85 / max tcase is 71(q6600 go) and the cpu will error out of prime95 at just below those temps? I don't. People just need to learn how to read the things that actually matter.

storage temp? isn't that the temp when no voltage is goign through the cpu?
yeah I wouldn't trust that one.

more heat means moer energy. more energy means higher chance of electromigration and for me to trust a temp that is related to a non-operating enviroment is just not for me.

Well, I've got an E8400 that reads very high core temperatures in Coretemp/Speedfan/HWMonitor, but perfectly reasonable Tcase temperatures; I have Tcase in the twenties and Tcore at 50 at idle. My suspicion is that the core temperatures may be lower than that (Coretemp is assuming Tjunction at 105), but I'm far from certain.

Mobile CPU's are obviously an entirely different animal from a heat perspective given that they're operated without cooling and at low power draw. Totally different situation, and moreover significantly different CPU design from a comparable desktop CPU.
