i'll give it a shot, thx

PS: would i have to "rebuild" the raid for that config?

and is it normal that the drives don't reformat themselves, and only just allow everything to be written over?

my friend had a similar problem and it turned out that there is a setting in the bios for raid hard drives and you have to turn it off or it trys to do mirror harddrives and ur cd rom wont work
if u turn it off u should be fine. you also need to set up ur boot order in the bios as well.

i tried the new sata arrangment and it recognizes everything in the bios but i get the cdrom driver error again........

KJ, if i disable the raid option i'm fairly certain that it will ask me to install vista on one of the HDD's and the other one will be inactive

EDIT: i tried without raid enabled and it does ask me to install vista on one of the two hdd's

Woot, after sleuthing the asus forums for a bit someone reccomended that a person

*Paraphrased*

1: inserted the non-vista mobo cd into a different computer with a formatted floppy
2: explore the directory of the cd drivers/chipset/AHCI_RAID/makedisc
3: click on the makedisc.exe and it will load the raid drivers onto the floppy
4: enable raid, create a raid partition using ctrl+f at the post screen
5: when vista wrongfully accuses you of not having cd c-drive drivers, browse your floppy and click on the amd64 folder
6: stand up because you'll be too excited to stay sitting

i'm pumped but also mad because i tried so many unnecessary things
thanks to all who helped
