You cant have a 5.0ghz machine 24/7... no chip can hold the necessary voltages! its only done on sucide runs

yes it has been done, but not for 24/7, just benchmark runs. you'll need Dry ice and a lot of modding

edit: the "ebay rules" like : For sale 12ghz system, don't count. So a dual core 2.5ghz wil not be a 5ghz rig *duh*

Buy a higher end water cooling setup or build one, and OC that sucker to 5.0 GHZ

The only way people go up that high is withe phase or Dry Ice.

It is done for 5 minutes, and never done again.

Mid to high 3ghz is a more realistic goal, or maybe 4.0 if you go 45nm.

I don't think an E8600 will overclock that much higher than an E8400 and most of those can only really get 24/7 stable in the mid 4's range. The hard part is that the higher you go the more voltage you need to add, and the newer proccies don't like prolonged voltage above 1.4V. Yes it can be done for short periods of time, but why would you need something to run stable at 5GHz anyway?

not always true it really goes on a chip to chip basis i have had my chip at over 1.4 on air for about a year now. but its also not a 45nm so wait until there out read all reviews and you might want to think about phase change for a project like that.
