Well... it would have to be an nVidia chipset. What kind of price range are you/he thinking about?

For about $130 you can get this....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130081

For about $200 there is this....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188012

And if money isn't really a concern, you can try one of the new 780i nVidia boards, but the 790i will be out soon and if thinking 780i, i would hold off until the 790i.

if money is no object then i would definitely suggest the 780i series. i think some of the issues with oc'ing quads and voltage were addressed with the 780 as well as support for 45nm cpus (at least dual core).

Here's one....

And then the uber high end....

Even though your friend is loaded that does not mean you have to buy the most expensive stuff.

First off all, if he wants SLi get a 780i or 680i. If he has an interested in the upcoming 45nm quads get a 780i. Do not get a 790i, it has DDR3 support, which is unneeded as DDR3 is pointless to have right now as it costs way more than DDR2 and offers minimal performance gain. DDR3 will only be worth getting when the Nehalem CPU's come out.

If he doesn't need SLi, which he most likely won't need unless he has a very high resolution screen get a P35 mobo. Don't even bother with the P35 mobo's like the P5K3 that have DDR3 support, DDR2 is fine for now.

ive heard a lot of good things about that board. if i'm not mistaken, there is a sticky about that board on this forum. SLI support, DDR2 and will accomodate the q6600..... plus even seen some very nice overclocks here using the board.
