Guys I didn't know the fan was running and my e6550 ran at 70 degrees for 5-10 minutes when i checked on core temp. do you guys think it got damaged? Also can anyone help me with overclocking with a ga-p31-ds3l mobo? It never keeps the settings.

do you mean the fan wasn't running?

And it's fine it can stand up to 72c for safe temps.

Why wont your motherboard keep settings ?

No you did not damage that CPU , its able to go to 85c ,,, and run like that for hours ,, soo dont sweat it. I don't know why you would want to OC, when your temp is already that high. You would have to increase your voltage, and that would take you to 85c easily ,,, You can probably do 2.8Ghz easy on stock voltage and cooling Im sure,,,,,,,,,

I've got the same board and proc... i've got some other posts on the e6550 threads.

I've been running it OC'd to 2.80GHz with the RAM matching at DDR2-800. Recently I just upped it to 3.15GHz with stock volts... and the RAM up to DDR2-900.

2.80GHz ... don't mind the 1.4 voltage. I had it to Auto, but it's definitely stable when kept at 1.35v/stock.

3.15GHz ... what i'm running now. All on the stock Intel HSF and Arctic Silver 5--i still need something aftermarket.

Its maybe your using the stock cooler that sucks or fan has stopped. Buy an aftermarket cooling system
