Are the G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) (PC2 8500) Any good? - Page 3

The GSKILLS are probably POWERCHIP IC's ( judging from voltage specs). The Corsair is Micron D9GMH handpicked IC's. Only time and experience will tell which is better. The Micron IC's are proven winners.

The corsairs stopped using D9's a while ago, and after mine (4x1gb) died, i went for the G.Skills 2x2GB PC8000 kits .. and as you can see, for the price, i got 8GB now
I like them really, not the fastest kit out there but for the price i could do much worse!

I will be upgrading to the PC8000 now after reading this thread. I was also unsure whether or not I should get the 1000 or 1066. Thanks!

With the money saved, I may be able to order 8GB at once! (Yes I have XP 32 now, but when I order the RAM I am ordering Vista 64)

Found the G.Skill "Owners Manual" for their new:
G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK

F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK has been tested on following motherboards. (In both 4GB & 8GB configs.)
Model
Abit IP35, IP35-E, IP35-PRO Intel P35
Abit IX38 Intel X38
Asus P5K Deluxe Intel P35
Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38
eVGA 780i-SLI nVidia 780i
Gigabyte P35-DS3, EP35-DS3 Intel P35
Gigabyte X38-DS4, X38-DQ6, EX38-DQ6 Intel X38

G.SKILL does NOT recommend to run F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK on following motherboards.
Asus P965 Commando, Asus P965 P5B-Deluxe
(Recommends F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK)
Asus P5N-D
(Recommends F2-8000CL5D-4GBPK)
4DIMM on any motherboard with NB nvidia 680i and 650i
(Recommands 2DIMM only)

There follows screenies for Initial Boot-up BIOS settings for each MoBo

From what knowledge I have they seem to be good and g.skill seems to be a reputable brand. I am only worried because I can't find any reviews. I would prefer PC2 8500 because I hate overclocking RAM and I don't mind shelling out the extra cash.

Does anyone know if these are any good and do they use the micro chips?

Thanks for the help (BTW I will give rep to anyone that helps answer this)

Those are the modules you want. I would not get the light blue ones: trouble. The ones I link rock.

(Yeah I prefer the Manly Royal Blue 1000s, not the Powderpuff turquoise 1066s) but, apart from that!

Trouble? CD?
8 layer PCBs and PCS ICs =Trouble?
Reviews containing trouble?
Questionabley worth the extra $40 bucks, but, they are guaranteed to do 1066 @ 2.0v

In short, no. They'll run something like DDR2-1075, no higher without more than 2.1V. I RMAed them.

I would grab mine, the GeIL Evo Ones, the new Crucial 2x2Gb kit, or some Mushkin Redline 2x2Gb.

I have to disagree with you here. Again, each set of sticks will vary, but with the Redlines I couldn't get above 1040 MHz no matter what I tried (and I tried just about every possible combination of settings/voltages) and with the exact same settings with the G.Skill PC28000 (which were $60 Cdn cheaper BTW) I am at 1100 MHz as we speak.

Again, YMMV, but I am now firmly behind the G.Skills... for the price, you can't go wrong.

(BTW that's the 1000 MHz ones, not the 1066MHz set)
