How to upgrade my HP Laptop VGA?

Thread Starter
So I'm trying to upgrade my laptop's 8400M GS to something more powerful, but I'm not exactly sure what I can buy for it or where. I'm good working with desktops, but I can't find a place to buy cards or where HP says what is compatible, etc.

I have an HP Pavilion dv6000.

Any useful suggestions would be rewarded.

Most of the time, it is very difficult to upgrade the video card within your laptop. Sometimes, they even solder it to the mobo. Even if you could do this with your laptop, it most likely won't give you much of a boost in performance, and it will be really expensive

I could think of places to get one. Have you tried price watch? It's not going to be easy. Everything in a laptop is extremely tightly packed in a certain way where there isn't much room for change. When buying a laptop it is very important to try to get something your going to be happy with till it's time to replace it.

Not the laptop you were looking for. But it might help.

HP, mostly uses gpus directly soldered onto the mobos of their lappies!!

8400m GS is mostly integrated onto the mobo( likelyness - 99%(forHP!))
Rarely, it may be found as a MXM card in MXM-I slot !!

Some info on mGPU comparisons! - http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=3&id=2112

(lol!! it mentions 8600m GT as top of the line GPU!!!!)

Therefore, u can't upgrade the gpu!! sry!

Here is a discussion about games that can run on 8400m GS - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/246216-33-games-8400m

Here's some more info on 8400m GS - http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVidia-...GS.3709.0.html

This is how a MXM(Mobile PCI-Express Module) card looks like in b/w-

Thought u might wanna know!!

More about MXM - http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/store.htmlhttp://www.mxm-upgrade.com/store.html

Hope this helps
