that was one other thing I wanted to add also . game devs are also dumbing down their games so the masses can enjoy them. remember back in the days with games you had to think. there was strategy, planning and figuring stuff out.

now look what it's come down to. many games out there any brain damaged retard (no offence meant by this) can play and beat.

They are designed to be fun rather than just challenging. I would not simply call it a "dumbing down".

Completely agree. Games seem to be all about the eye candy now. Plot, storyline and game time go out the window in favour of it looking 'the best' or 'most advanced'.

COD4 was brilliant, it ran all on High on my 3500+ rig (unlike Crysis but thats a given) and really got you wrapped up in the storyline, but just as you were really getting into it...........................it ended. It really needed to be twice as long. To all the modders out there............................ make a 6 hour single player campaign for it!!!

C&C is another example. It's all well and good making it 3D and fancy looking but its lost its soul and the things that made it good in the first place. Red Alert 3 will be just the same, as much as I'd like it to 'break the mould' it wont.

TF2 takes things the other way, it looks good, runs great and is fun and appealing. No need for fancy graphics there, the gameplay does all the work.

Battlefield Heroes will be a copy of it and will suck big time, where is the originality?!?!

The Half Life series is the only one that doesn't rely on eye candy to entice the gamer. The storyline has done the work and people want more.

I understand games are designed to be fun. but that was part of the fun was to have a game that was challenging.
many good series of games have been ruined due to this. you know the ones that prided themself on being indepth and as realistic as you could for a game and then instead of keeping with that change the series into a dumbed down version that has been overly simplified.
not saying all games need to or should be that way. sometimes the simple ones are good, but don't ruin a good series to turn into into a simplified version and snip any kind of complex game from hitting markets.

They are dying. I haven't played a truly long game since golden sun and other rpg type games. And stories are getting worse, and more predictable. Only bioshock was truly different.

who cares about story, gameplay is all

look at mario, tetris, portal, half life,

crysis story wasn´t an oscar winner but it´s far better than UT3, it was interesting at least for me

I voted option #3 because game developers are and they are not. Look at the Wii, so-so GFX and incredible gameplay. Maybe it's partly due to the fact of the new controller system, maybe it's not.

I agree that the CoD4 singleplayer could have been much longer, but it still delivers in terms of gameplay. I have yet to play Crysis, so I can't say anything there. After hearing everyone's opinions on Crysis, I probably will never add that game to my collection.

Game developers need to take a step back and learn from the original developers from Nintendo, Sega, Atari, and the likes. If I were to develop a game, I would dump the GFX and go to command-line for a sexah gameplay, if I had to. Nah... 8-bit is more than enough.

As stated I think games are becoming easy and a little mindless. Most are just pick up a gun and shoot. Half life 2 I loved as its that but with strategy and puzzles...you actually have to use part of that 10% of brainpower we have lol.
