Does RAM affect in-game FPS?

Heres my system specs;

AMD 6000+
2GB DDR2
8800gts 320mb (g80)

My dad said that he would get me a little more ram for my birthday on the 14th ^^, So knowing i would have to get a 64BIT os, is getting 4GB or 6GB of ram better on a 64bit OS than 2GB's.. would it improve my FPS - Or help with my CAD, what kind of % increase can i expect?

4gb ...... u will see no FPS increase with 6gb over 4gb u probably still wont use the whole 4gb with a x64 OS (but can if needed)

I notice you have 5GB ram, what made you change to that and what kind of performance increase have you seen?

You may be able to alt tab out of games faster or for MP games, you might load the maps faster.

If you have more RAM programs and applications can load quicker ( Depends on what apps ) and game textures...However this is only the case if your RAM is completely used up. If you have 4GB and using only 1.8 then there is absolutely no point in getting anymore lol.
