How do one reset the CMOS, I dont really want to reinstall Windows and loose all my crap

I have Windows XP installed right now, does the "uninstall in device manager" technic work with it too or only in Vista?

Resetting the CMOS does not affect your windows install. On most motherboards you just remove a battery for like 10-20 mins and then it will force the motherboard to redetect all hardware (so it will make the motherboard realize that you have a new CPU).

Refer to the manual. There is a jumper that must be moved usually and a battery (you've seen it) that you need to pop out and put back in.

OR, you can get an amazing Abit IP35 Pro and there is an CMOS reset switch on the back i/o panel.

WOW, I have never reformatted or had to reactivate windows (xp home/pro, vista 32/64 premium) and I have switched out 3 or 4 cpu's in a day. Gone from dual to quad and back without any issues. A clear cmos is in order as you should allways do that when changing hardware like cpu or ram.

Well I dint had to remove my battery from what the manual says, just switch a jumper place, thats what they wrote in the manual ;

"Clearn RTC RAM (CLRTC): You can clear the CMOS memeory of date, time and system setup parameter sby erasing the CMOS RTC RAM data.

To erase the RTC RAM:
1. Turn OFF The computer and unplug the power cord
2. Move the jumper cap from pins 1-2(default) to pins 2-3 to enable the CLRTC function.
3. Plug the power cord and turn ON the computer.
4. Hold down the <Del> key during the boot process and enter BIOS setup to re-enter data."

So first of all, was that what you guys were talking of? Second of, it is said that I need to re-enter my information in the BIOS, I dint had to do that since everything was set back to default, which is what I was using seeing as I dint do any overcloacking yet, I had to change the "boot device" order but thats it, was everything suppose to reset to default or should it all have been blank?

Third of, when I look in the BIOS "overcloacking" section I see that it display my CPU as being the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz, it shows the same thing when I look at my System proprieties, but it still show E6600 on in PC Wizard, is it just my PC Wizard 06 being stupid or if somethings wrong lol? And finally last of, do I need to put the jumper back to what it used to be? Because there is no precision of that in the Manual!

Thank you for answering my noobish question
