I have the message stop: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xBA4B3F76, 0xBACC33F8, 0xBACC30F4). I can not reboot into safe mode even to uninstall drivers or anything. I just reinstalled win xp due to either hard drive going bad or just picked up something from internet. So I have been updating drivers and updated my nvidia drivers and I think that may be the problem but i am not sure. If anyone can tell me what this message means and if they have any the other ideas I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Is anything overclocked while you're reinstalling your OS?

Preliminary research indicates it's likely a driver problem; did the BSOD reference a specific file triggering the error?

Anyone have any ideas how I could rule out it being the hard drive?

First thing I would do is check your RAM. Your BIOS should have MemTest+ incorporated in it; your errors might be caused by flaky RAM.

Also, it's advisable to revert to stock settings when installing an OS. Doing so eliminates the possibility of a BIOS setting that might be off causing a corruption.

As far as ruling out your HDD, we have to take things sequentially. Start from the basics and move on up the chain: Default settings; RAM check; OS load.

you can use the seagate tool for your maxtor drive and also run memtest. I had the same error the other day turns out my ram is bad. i think that address also references video. but since my stop error searches it seems its always very vague.

Patience.

If the RAM is unhealthy, it may take a few passes before it gets exposed. On the other hand, healthy RAM will pass MemTest every single time, no matter how many times you run it through.

About 2 weeks ago hard drive dissappeared from post screen so i reset cmos and unplugged and replugged drive. It came back but I took it as a sign it was on its way out. I talked to someone at work and they said it was probably just corrupted hard drive and to reformat.
