Leadtek Winfast A6600GT Memory cooler question

Thread Starter
Ok.
I've got a Leadtek Winfast A6600GT TDH AGP 8x video card. I've already installed a Zalman HS/F on it, however, I was unable to install the little cooler chips on the memory chips on the card itself (too close to the heatsink assembly) sooo..... I was thinking, would it be of any difference (lower temps is what I'm looking for) if I installed the little heatsinks on the memory chip....??

Picstures of the heatsink in question on the card (circled) and the heatsinks I was thinking of installing. (attached to post)

Also, would I get lower temps if I used AS5 on the cards GPU (i guess that's what it's called) instead of the thermal paste Zalman included with the fan?

I don't know how much difference you'll get on the memory, actually. I've never seen video RAM temps being monitored.

The reason it doesn't physically fit is because that cooler isn't meant for AGP versions of the 6600GT (I know; my 6600GT wasn't exactly "compatible" with zalman coolers.)

I just bent the fins of the RAM sinks until it fit lol

Yes, use AS5 on the GPU chip. Don't use the zalman crap.

I don't think you need ramsinks on video cards.

It's more for show. It might be even better to just let them uncovered and have air running over them. If it was a big issue, I'm sure they would've put thermal sensors in them to throttle the speeds down just like it's done on the core.

It's like regular system ram. Those heatsink on the sinks nowadays are really more for show.
