MSI K9A2 CF-F AM2 AMD 790X (need suggestions)

Call this a case of leaping before you look.

Anyways, bought a new computer from CyberpowerPC. Had my last computer built there 7 years ago and I've not had one single problem with it, even playing the latest games, aside from Crysis, COD4, etc.

Anyways, I chose said motherboard with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+. Apparently MSI has cut all support for this combination.

As I'm sure many know, the 6400+ line is a 125w processor. Now, I've read reviews both positive and negative. Hell, even the article itself says the processor works in this motherboard. So what gives? Will I be okay? I have the thing internally liquid cooled and a proper power supply (600w) attached.

Perhaps others aren't cooling it properly? Too many trying to overclock? I'd rather not have to deal with a fried motherboard + CPU. What do people here think?

Post script: I suppose it's safe to say I don't plan on overclocking it.

I suppose it should be noted that CyberpowerPC (www.cyberpowerpc.com) runs all computers through testing and quality control. The one I built with this combination passed and has shipped as of 3/7/08.

I guess the main thing I'm asking is if I don't overclock, should this remain stable? As it would seem, the board was made to use the 6000, 6400+, AND Phenoms and as I would expect, passed all tests on each by MSI.

I expect with proper cooling, power input, and a dust-free area to run in, the motherboard will handle fine. I guess I should be expecting to replace the motherboard one of these days. (I just hope the liquid cooling won't be too hard to take out.)

So, with this revised thought in mind, any comments, suggestions?

Not a clue as to why they don't support that CPU, rather odd!

If it BOOTs fine and test stable with an Orthos Blend test at level 10 don't worry about it Heck if thats the case you can likely OC it a bit too.

Really? Think so?

I mean, I'm not really hot on taking risks, but if someone could tell me how to do this properly, with such a reported unstable combination, I'd be down with at least trying it out.

I plan to upgrade when better Phenom's are available that aren't 125w since the board is AM2+ compatible. Maybe a nice OCable Black ED, or something to that effect. Then I can at least get the support for it should I need it.

Post edit: I'm not sure if Cyberpower uses that particular test, though, I guess it'd be in my best interest to run it for myself.
