[ht4u] NVIDIA brings the GT200 to market soon - Page 3

Smokescreening, or waiting for AMD's next move.
I doubt that happens or is true just because its a horrible business decision. Their next cards (x2 and 9800gtx) aren't even out = they wouldn't announce something else will double them in 3 months because no one would buy these then.

I don't think they're simply "waiting", from everything I've seen regarding the 9800GX2 delays the G92 is simply putting out too much heat, and the article hints that the GT200 faces the same problem, since its still using 65nm tech, so I really doubt that nVidia wants wait for AMD, it doesn't really have any choice.

The 9800GTX and GX2 are just stop gap measures, I don't believe even nVidia thinks they will fool us for a second by releasing an overclocked 8 series card and calling it the 9 series, they are just stalling for time so they can get the GT200 out.

Its obvious that nVidia chips are still considerably more powerful than ATI's, at least until R700 comes out, so I guess nVidia thinks they can just sit back and overclock their 8 series cards and call them 9 series. I have no doubt that the 9800GX2 will be more powerful than the 3870X2, but I think in real world performance CrossfireX will negate those advantages. Not to mention the almost 0 overclocking ability on the GX2s due to the heat.

I agree with all the above but remember Nvidia always keeps an ace card up their sleeve.
Example would be the 8800GS.
Do you believe they really wanted to release that in between the 8800GT and the 9600GT?
Temporary card, temporary counter strike aimed at the HD3850.
You can get one at Newegg now for $120, while they last.

Stop trying to wrap your head around the crap nvidia is dealing out here.

I think it's safe to assume that the 9800GTX is simply a die shrink refresh of the 8800GTX. The same thing that happened between the 7800 and the 7900 cards...

Anything else you read will probably just be up in the air until the new cards finally come out. Then we will know whats going on...
Not really. 8800GTS G92 is the same thing as 9800GTX, it's still missing a few ROPs and the 384-bit bus the 8800GTX has. That's exactly why it only takes Ultra's stock clocks to beat 9800GTX's higher stock clocks. There have been some benchmarks somewhere in Hardware News section (too lazy to dig up ).
