Not sure what's so great about the new SC2, could have put a skin over the old one and fooled me....

Agreed.

Textures are only part of good graphics; if textures were everything, my 7900GS would be supreme, since it manages large textures better than an 8800GT!

Effects are big; certainly bigger than textures. From the looks of it...they have some incredible special effects in there. And Jim Raynor's ship(single-player) should cover you for high quality textures/animation.

i love SC terribly (play it a couple times a week), but I'm not into the new look. However, I've seen plenty of gameplay footage and I probably won't mind that much when I'm in a round struggling not to get pwnd!

This is kind of a nonsense argument.

First, it's not like Blizzard is pumping out tired rehashes of their franchises year after year. The time between games within a franchise is generally huge. Starcraft was out ten years ago, for pete's sake. Warcraft I and II were only a year apart, but it was seven years before Warcarft 3 came out. And there were four years between Diablo and Diablo II, a completely average length of time between non-expansion pack sequels.

And WoW doesn't even factor into this list; just because it's set in the same world as the Warcraft RTS does not mean it's rehashing the same game. Mario Kart is not a rehash of Super Mario Bros. just because they both have Mario in them.

Second, you can't really say they're beating a dead horse when there are three games you're complaining about. Honestly, one developer having a stable of three A-list games (four, counting Wow) is absolutely phenomenal. Has Blizzard even had a failed game? I can't think of one...their quality control is so high that they seem to kill off the bad projects before they ever hit the street (e.g. that old Warcraft adventure game, and presumably Starcraft Ghost). Find me another developer with that kind of track record: four killer franchises, releasing highest quality and market dominating games for fifteen years. It's practically unheard of. That's why publishing giants like EA gobble up smaller development houses: having even one AAA franchise is a standout accomplishment!

And finally, even if I were to grant that Blizzard and Nintendo are "beating a dead horse", here's hoping they continue doing exactly that. That dead horse has resulted in some of the best games ever made. When the other developers can do better than Blizzard and Nintendo, that will be great for us all. Until then, keep doing what you're doing, guys.

Damn skippy.

They aren't throwing a fresh coat of paint on a game and calling it a sequel. Starcraft came out on 04/04/1998. That is over 10 years ago. They have never released a game that didn't do well, and that is because people know that any game made by Blizzard is one that is worth the purchase. They have to decided to concentrate on 3 well known and popular franchises and put out high quality games set in those worlds. They release the game when it is ready, not based on deadlines. And no matter how far into a game they are, if it isn't up to their standards they will scrap it. Starcraft Ghost looked great... but apparently it had problems. There have been 3 Warcrafts, 2 Diablos, and 1 Starcraft (and WoW). Not exactly sequel-mania. Come back after Warcraft XIII and we can talk about dead horses.
