Pretty crappy... I would throw it away.

I found a dell with a P4 3Ghz and 512mb RAM with an 80GB HDD a while back and used that for a while.

128MB RAM? You'll need more than that. But the HDD is a nice bonus.

I had a client give me a Gateway, 17" LCD, mouse, keyboard, speakers, the whole shebang, that had a bad MB. I just soldered two new capacitors on the MB and it fired right up. It's actually a decent PC for my kids. Pentium D, 2gb DDR2-667, 160GB HDD, PCI-E slot! Not bad for free!!

Dells of that generation don't use a conventional CPU heatsink/fan like we're all used to seeing. It should have a fairly large aluminum heatsink and then a green plastic shroud that creates a duct to the case exhaust fan. The case exhaust fan should then be hooked to the CPU Fan header on the motherboard. Not the nost ideal setup but it kept them quiet.

If I got it running, I would NEVER EVER throw it away. I have and old school IBM system laying around with almost the same specs (I added some more RAM) and it works great for Office programs, browsing, and emulating if you're so inclined.

Hang on to it and considering that you have next-to-nothing invested it it, sell it to someone in need of a PC for an amount that will compensate your costs. Between a friend and myself, we've "rescued" quite a few PCs like this and passed them on to people that can't normally afford one.

It would be your good deed for the day!

i know that much but my question is missing the air duct and fan can i get away with now having one or should i rig my self up a 120 blowing in. to cool that cpu since the air duct is missing. i always do that fix them and save them. and sell them to make a little money off it to fund the next one to come in to the allen hospital for computers.

like for example i had a spare ac adaptor for my 9300. and i sold it for 25 bucks. this poor guy got ripped off on criagslist he trade some tools for this dell xps gen 2. it had no ram. video card was shot was artifacting all over the place. so i trade my spare 6800 go for some windows xp pro disc and offic disc and 50 bucks. and the computer works great now! i just wish i bought that xps off him. so i can take that cpu and put mine in it. then sell the xps on ebay.
