So I have two hard drives...

Thread Starter
So I now have two hard drives installed in my computer. One, a 300gb SATA, on which there is a clean installation of vista. The other, a 40gb IDE, completely blank.

So, I was wondering, what would the optimum configuration of these disks be? Pagefile location, TEMP location, partitioning, et cetera.

Thanks!

Hah. Yeah, with all the trouble this old POS caused me on my old machine, I seriously considered something like that. But, in the interest of being cost-effective, I was wondering if there was any way I could use it to my advantage. Perhaps assign some menial task to it that would give me a little boost? I'm currently assigning the pagefile to it, and keeping one on my SATA drive. I don't know what else to do, though.

So, advice always appreciated.

From what people have said, You should have a samll partition on the 300 gig for the OS so it runs faster and then use the rest of the space for stroage.

Me personally, depending on what the computer is for, either leave it like it is and do a ghost image of the fresh install on the 40 gig for future re-formating, and then set the page file for the 40 gig also. I would use the 40 gig for any programs you download, that way you have quick access if you like it and want to install it on another computer or on another install.

Or on my HTPC, I am putting the OS on a 60 gig IDE and leaving the entire 500 gig for storage.

You could also take the 40 gig out and get an enclosure and have a small protable stroage drive.

Final option, sell it. You could get ~$25-30 shipped for it.

Alright. Although, one problem. Whenever trying to shrink to main OS partition, it only lets me shrink it to half the size. I want to shrink it to just about 10 gigs above the OS's current size. Any ideas? Oh, using the built in vista partitioner
