RAID 0 setup guide?

Thread Starter
Can someone point me in the direction of a good RAID 0 set up guide?

I have 2- 250 Gb Seagate Barracudas, and am looking to set them up in a Raid 0.

It depends on your motherboard.

Enable raid on the SATA ports you are using (can be done in the bios), and then after you save the bios it will ask you to press a key to enter raid setup. You'd most likely want stripping (raid 0), and a 128K block which is a good all around size.

Will I see much of a performance increase by doing this?

Is it worth the headache of having to re-install the operating system?

It is. I was in RAID 0 for a while, then jumped back, and it is way slower. Just remember to keep regular backups at all times.

I would suggest a 64 bit block size unless you are encodeing/decodeing video. As for the RAID drivers needed for install, here are the 32 and 64 bit RAID drivers I unpacked from the Floppy F6 disk creator. I basically created the floppy and copied the files. With Vista, you can just put them on a USB drive or CD and "Load Drivers" during the OS installation (prior to selecting the HDD to install the OS on, there will be a option to load drivers).

BTW, these drivers are for the ICH8R and ICH9R southbridge.

We will see a big boost in raid-0. After you install the raid driver and os. Make sure you enbale write catching. I give you a nice boost.
