E8400 best with 800ddr2 or 1066ddr2?

Thread Starter
Hi guys, doing a build basically just wondering if its best to buy corsair 800m DDR2 with 4-4-4-12 timings, or go for corsair 1066m ddr with 5-5-5-12 timings?

Im not sure how to OC ram memory, and ill be using a 700W ocz PSu & scythe smurai cooler, so not sure how far i could push either ddr2 ram, the 800 or 1066 respectively. Also the prices are roughly the same.

THANKS!

I'd go with the higher speed because on an OC your ram is linked and slower ram will limit overclock

With memory, you want the speed over timings. Go with the 1066, no question.

first thing don't buy corsair you can get better for less money.

g.skill, geil, crucial all offer better bang for the buck. even more so if you want to overclock as many of their higher end models can overclock quite a bit higher then corsair and save you money in the proccess.

what you want is micron b ased ram as those can net you up to around 1100 plus mhz for the ram from a 800mhz stock chip.

It would also be relevant to find out what board you're using. Some boards don't like some memory.

DDR2-800 and DD2-1066 are cheap now so go for 1066 especailly at the same price. Also, I would take a look at Crucial Ballistix ram. DDR2-1066 and DDR2-800.

yea exactly what i was gonna ask next linskingdom , im on website looing at crucial ballistix and crucial ballistix tracer memory, the price difference is barely noticeable, the non-tracer ones being $10 more, there pc8500 ddr2 both have 5-5-5-15 timings, so whats the difference?
