Intel Guarantee's

Hi guys, I just want to know on your part, when is an Intel CPU's warranty Void?

Currently I have to return a CPU and the Orignal CPU paste on the bottom of the CPU is worn off so I removed it, also the Chip isn't physically burnt it just makes the PC in question reboot whenever it gets to windows.

The person who I sold it to didn't follow my instruction and apply new thermal paste and suddenly its my fault that its now broken and I'm getting really annoyed with him so I have to return it.

I said, "Don't forget to apply thermal paste before you put the HSF on the CPU" and he was like "Ok". when he called to say it was busted I asked him if he'd put paste on his CPU, he said he did but then when my friend went to go check it out it was bone dry, not a single drop of CPU paste. then they put paste on and it worked for a few hours and now its messed. But they did run the PC for a few days without paste

and he did say that he did run it without thermal paste for 2 days? If that is the case...thats his stupid problem. You gave him directions on what to do and didn't follow such as not using any! I'm on ur side for this one.

Thanks man, I'm thinking the same way but I mean his parents will come after me if I don't do something, I told him I'd let him use my E2200 while I return his but I can't do that since I have WORK to do and all he wants to do is play games. The only day I can return it is Friday and I can't not have a PC for 5 days.

That's too bad for him. What the hell are his parents going to do. Explain the situation, and end the conversation, you don't have time for this bullsh-. His fault, let him learn a lesson. Sorry if thats too harsh, but thats the way I am. After you sell something, It's none of your business after.

His fault, I wouldn't touch it. Just tell him he is out of luck. If his/her parents come to you, Just explain the situation.

Intel has 3 ways of dealing with warranty returns.

The first, and most common is for the end-user (that's you) to return the CPU to your place of purchase (either retail or distributor), and they will handle the warranty of the CPU for you.

Second, you can send it to Intel yourself for an SWR, or standard warranty return. This requires you paying for your own shipping, either to Dublin, Ireland for EMEA, or wherever your local Freight Handling offices of Intel are. You're in South Africa, so there is one in Johannesburg.

Lastly, if you are an Intel Partner, you can use a process called AWR, or advanced warranty return. Since you probably aren't, I won't go into too much detail, but what it means is that Intel ship a new part to you and when they give you the new part, they collect the old one.

Since this isn't really the info you want, I'll get on to the point of my post. To obtain warranty outside of the place of purchase, you can contact Intel's customer support centre (make sure you have the serial number of the CPU handy - it's the last line of writing on the CPU).

Thermal overheating and processors blowing due to overheating is a sore spot, and one obviously not covered under Intel's warranty. That said, Intel are more than lenient with boxed processor warranties, so as long as you can provide the serial number panel and original HSF of the processor, you shouldn't have any issue getting the processor warrantied.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your input. @Tricky : No you're not harsh at all, you're actually 100% correct. Thanks Chemi for showing me various options.
