Yeah, there have been some recent tests on XS that are a bit eye opening regarding the use of vinegar.

Hot soapy water is all I use unless I have some bad oxidation. Then I just give the copper base a bath in ketchup for only a minute and quickly wash with hot soapy water again.

Ketchup has a high percentage of vinegar so it's acidic to copper and you don't want to leave any copper in contact for very long.


For new stuff, I would just use hot soapy water, and flush with hot water. Some guys will boil a pot of water, but I don't go that far...

I just jam a water hose into the barbs, turn the water pressure on max and let her rip straight into the barbs. It cleans EVERYTHING out.
