Super Pi got 2 seconds slower
3D 03 got ~700 points less
Doom 3 timedemo1 got 15FPS (avg) lower

My conclusion: windows' 64-bit OSs provide no improvement for 32-bit applications.
When did you do your testing? It could be a difference in time for ms to improve it that me and you are seeing different results. I tested mine about a month ago and got those results.

OC your CPU. It might be bottlenecking so much that you can't see any gain gotten from XP x64.

ah that could be it.. I am installing windows Vista home basic x86 on the other partion of my HD rite now. Once I do that I will OC my CPU to 3.1Ghz and run the same 3DMark06 test on both the XP Pro x64 and the Vista Home Basic x86 version and post the results.

Anyone want to post what they think the score will be on the two respective operating systems?

Alrite I ran 3DMark06 with the CPU OC'ed. (the SP1 and SP2 tests were performed with the exact same settings and exact same processes running)

Vista Home Basic 32Bit: 11,435

XP Pro x64 SP1: 11,672

XP Pro x64 SP2: 11,699

So only a 264 point difference between XP Pro x64 and Vista.. not much of a difference there, I'm going to run PCMark05 on both and see what that says. I'll post those results tommorrow.

No surprises there. And actually with SP1 for Vista you'd see a performance gain there as well. Too bad this isn't enough for all the Naysayers out there regarding Vista and gaming. The result differences are a moot point anymore as the driver's for Vista have finally matured enough to narrow the gap up.

People seem to not realize that the differences were never anything to do with the OS but simply the crap drivers everyone was putting out. Now that were nearly 18months into it and SP1 is right around the corner for everyone people will hopefully finally start to see that Vista's not as bad as they thought.

I've been running Vista SP1 final for a few weeks now on both my machines (I work at a retailer so I was able to get it through my OEM partner account) and I couldn't be happier with it.

I agree Vista has come a long way since its launch. I originally was a little frustrated as I had driverless hardware but those issues have long since been resloved and I love it now!

As far as that low score in the first post. I didn't see this thread earlier but think about that CPU/GPU combo, at those clocks, running CPU-lovin' 3DMark06. He's dinged for the slow CPU in its score as well as bottlenecking the video card and getting dinged there as well.

After going back from vista to XP x64 and running those test, I dont know why people are staying with XP. Vista is easier to use, has more useful things than XP has, and it is just as fast. I am definitely sticking with Vista Home Basic, and possibly I may get Vista Home Basic x64 to go with it.
