Well one problem I have seen with the 45nm chips is that, yes they can hit 4ghz at 1.35-1.40v but the problem is that you cant really give them any more voltage. and they need more voltage to hit higher speeds, but when you give these chips more voltage they die, no matter what kind of cooling you give them.

exactly my point on the death of overclocking,
Atleast if u give a 65nm 2.0v it doesnt automatically crap out on you, it can atleast go for a bit, the 45nm seem to have a certain point where they just... die, if u go over 1.4v, its extremeley wierd,
Either overclocking will die, or it will be a very sensitive art, where you must stress test each fsb increase of 1, and each vcore uppage of 0.01

If I remember correctly the 22nm transition will be using carbon nanotubes. If they manage to get it actually working by 2011, carbon nanotubes are a lot stronger than current metal conductors: you can put a lot of voltage into the nanotube structure without the same risk of damaging it as you do with metal conductors today.
