Highest stable OC, GeForce 6600 PCI-E, Stock fan.

Thread Starter
Hey all, just wondering if anyone has experimented with this, and I would like to do some research before I run the risk of making my video card go "kablamo".

Anyway, just wondering what the highest stable OC that anyone has gotten out of a GeForce 6600 (256mb) for PCI-E with a stock fan.

I would like to get all I can out of this card since I do not have the cash as-of-yet to fork over for a shiny 8800, and Im feeling a tad left behind compared to other gamers.

BTW, the box says PNY on it, do they OC their cards before shipping? I hear some companies do that sometimes.

Anyway, here are what the nVidia panel says my clock speeds are:

GPU Core (2D/3D): 350 mhz
GPU Memory: 500 mhz

Speedfan reports my comp is averaging about 40 C when idle across all the sensors.
EDIT: And high-load temps hover at 50 and peak around 55 (when I pushed both clocks up by 50 mhz, forgot to check temps while on high-loads when not OCing)

Any other info you guys need to help me, I'll gladly dig it out.

Please and thank you!

Well, I pushed both clocks up by 100 mhz and gained 162 3Dmark06 points.

Anybody got anything higher that's stable with the stock fan?

I'm afraid Steve the 6600 is a very old card, it was very good back in the day but your not really going to gain that much performance by overclocking.

@Monk: I know its an old card, but financial issues (like the ones that come from being a HS student) prevent me from getting anything better.

@Hail: Nice, how stable was it?

I ran it there 24/7 for 8 months. Still ran fine I just upgraded to 2x 6800GS's.

Nice, but I just noticed you said it was a GT and I have a standard 6600. Arg...

Could explain what happened when I tried to push past the 100mhz increase I had already setup, everything either froze up or the picture started to phase (if thats the word for it, randomly colored lines appeared on the screen either overtaking the entire display or just overlaying over the picture, then freezing)

Hmm...since the new 9 series came out a bit ago, how long do you guys think it'll be before the price starts to drop on the 8 series? (Preferably the 8600-8800)
