Wireless + XP Pro..

Well, to start: my sister has a GQ zx-5362 laptop. Specs are as follows:

Sempron
S3 Graphics
256MB RAM
40GB HDD
Ralink rt2500 wireless
Soundmax sound or something

Brief history:

This laptop is a slow piece of garbage. I don't know what they did with the stock install; it's like they made it slow on purpose. Anyway, I installed my own clean XP Pro on it (retail, so it doesn't come with adware and crapware and bloatware), and now it's very fast. However, the WIRELESS IS NOT WORKING! I've downloaded the drivers from the manufacturer's site (actually from ECS's site, since that's the manufacturer of the board), and the driver supposedly installed correctly.

However, the wireless card will not see any wireless networks. Not mine, not my neighbors' - no one's. I've also tried to use the .sys (or was it .inf?) files on the recovery CD, but windows device manager says the disk doesn't have any such driver for my devices.

If anyone knows about this problem, please help. I'm having a tough time getting wireless working in Linux on that computer too...

Thanks.

i just tried looking for some accurate drivers, and google pointed me to fry's. there were no direct download links for the laptop you mentioned that I could see, but you can try out their support system and request drivers for your notebook. other than that I saw nothing else for that specific laptop.

Yeah, fry's didn't have support for my model. bs.

I'll ask the dummies over there about it and expect an unhelpful answer.

GQ, "great quality" (it isn't). It's a fry's brand.
