5000+ vs Opty.. which one! - Page 5

well i had the opty165 at 2.95ghz with 2x512mb ram and a 8800GTS 640mb

I think i landed 9950 on 3dmark06 that was the max i could get or it was something near there.

my opty wouldn't pass to 3.0ghz no matter what i did. But i loved that system. lol

I say go opty, that L2 cache is is the deal maker for me. Not to mention optys easily give you 5 more cool points... just look how cool I am!
you're on the 1210 right? what kind of oc are you getting with that?

If you're already at 2.8Ghz, it's pointless to stay dual core, I'd go to a Phenom then. But obviously check and see if your motherboard supports it.

He originally proposed a worthless upgrade, for the same amount of money on a different platform he could see a considerable amount of improvement. Its not about opinion, its about fact.

Fact: AMD X2 5000+ BE beats any Intel CPU in that price point.

Fact: AMD Opteron 1218 beats any Intel CPU in that price point.

Fact: Intel equivelant of a Black Edition CPU is there Extreme Edition (and we all know what those cost)....oh yeah, AMD doesn't charge anymore for an unlocked multiplier.

Fact: Not having to buy a new mobo saves money.

To the original poster...I am currently running an Opty 180 @ 2.91GHz and I just bought the X2 5000 BE for 2 reasons...

1. I can finally break free from my S939 bonds

2. I can start getting with the times and using DDR2 RAM

and 3. I can OC to 3.2 GHz simply by raising the clock multiplier.

IMO if you are looking for a cheap, quick upgrade to get yourself by until a decent Phenom comes out. Go with the X2 5000+. Plus with Newegg you get a free t-shirt out of the deal. HAHA!

Go AMD...Intel you suck! And to all you Intel fanboys....
