Tick = small upgrade (usually a newer process, like 45nm to 32nm)
Tock = large upgrade (like upgrading from Pentium D to Core2Duo)

The reason that this naming is used is because Intel has been (and seems to be in the future) releasing a big update and then making minor improvements on it for a year or two, then releasing something really nice again.

I personally think this is the best way to do things.

Overclocking is mostly dependent on the architecture (and stock clocks). You will still be able to increase voltage by the roughly same amount as usual, %-wise.

Not exactly. Lower voltage with a lower process usually just gets you lower temps, which doesn't change your ability to overclock, it just lets you overclock with less 'high-temp' issues. For example, with my cheapy generic copper HS I still reach max voltage before max temps.

hey man, you know what's the meaning of overclocking?? if you know you must know, heat is the BIGEST problem in extreme overclocking, so LOWER VCore mean LOWER heat!! and LOWER heat mean HIGHER results in overcloking!
that's one of most important reason that 45nm chips can overclock much better than 65nm.

The E8400's also overclock farther on stock volts than the 65's do.
